SHSU women go unbeaten in 5 matches Friday

The No. 3 ranked Sam Houston women's bowling team continued its winning ways Friday, going unbeaten on the first day of the Fairleigh Dickinson New Jersey Jamboree in North Brunswick, New Jersey.
Highlight of the day's action was the Bearkats' fourth, fifth and sixth victories this season over top 20 ranked opponents. The SHSU women knocked off No. 5 Maryland Eastern Shore 1,019-974 in their last match of the day.
In Friday's quad baker action, the Kats started Friday with a 1,073-951 win over No. 19 Delaware State.
Sam Houston also defeated Caldwell 896-654, No. 20 Monmouth 1,006-875 and New Jersey City 1,113-533.
"We had a great look all day and resiliency was key," SHSU head coach Brad Hagen. "We caught a demanding pair in our second set but made the best of it. After the second set we really had to buckle down, reset, regroup, and get back to our game plan. The shots were made when they needed and the ladies did an amazing job today keeping the energy high. "
Eight of the top 10 teams in the country and six more squads ranked 11-20 are participating in the Fairleigh Dickinson New Jersey Jamboree at the Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes.
Sam Houston leads the tournament with 5,107 total pins. Stephen F. Austin is in second place with a 5,009 pin fall and Fairleigh Dickinson stands third with 4,966 pins.
The Bearkats continue action in tradition team matches on Saturday and best-of-seven baker bracket play on Sunday.
Other top 10 teams joining Sam Houston in the field are No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 7 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 8 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 9 Stephen F. Austin and No. 10 Saint Francis (Penn.)
Ranked in the second 10 nationally are No. 12 Kutztown, 13 North Carolina A&T, No. 15 Valparaiso, No. 17 Saint Francis (Brooklyn), 19 Delaware State and No. 20 Monmouth. Other teams in the event include Bethune-Cookman, Cheyney, Coppin State, Franklin Pierce, Pittsburgh Bradford, Saint Peter's and Virginia State.
