
SHSU takes on 12 top 20 teams in next event

Twelve top 20 ranked teams will challenge Sam Houston State for the title at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Women's Bowling Classic this weekend.
The Bearkats look to compete for another title in their fourth event of the season. The Hawk Classic is being held at the Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Delaware.
Ranked No. 3 nationally this fall and the defending NCAA Division I women's bowling national champions, Sam Houston enters the tournament with a 30-11 record in dual matches. The Kats stand 16-9 in matches against top 20 teams so far.
Other top 10 squads competing include No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Maryland-Eastern Shore, No. 7 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 9 Stephen F. Austin and No. 10 Saint Francis (Penn.).
Teams ranked 11-20 in the event include No. 11 Sacred Heart, No. 12 Kutztown, No. 13 North Carolina A&T, No. 14 Long Island, No. 17 Saint Francis (Brooklyn), No. 19 Delaware State and No. 20 Monmouth.
The teams will compete in six total pin baker games on Friday and six traditional team matches on Saturday. Total pins from the first two days will determine the seeding for best-of-seven baker bracket play on Sunday.
Sam Houston won their first tournament of the year at Tulane and was the runner-up at the New Jersey Jamboree. The Bearkats finished seventh in their last outing at Valparaiso.
