
SHSU women finish 7th in Track Kat Klash

Nebraska, runners-up to Sam Houston in the NCAA Division I Women's Bowling Championship match last April 6in Cleveland, won the SHSU TRACK Kat Klash Sunday, defeating Arkansas State 4-3 in the championship match.
Sam Houston placed seventh, defeating McKendree 178-174, 195-187, 216-168, 191-200, 147-236, 206-180 in the Bearkats' final baker best-of-seven bracket match Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the Bearkats fell to North Carolina A&T 163-180, 176-153, 223-192, 192-138, 202-170 in the 5-6 seed matchup and to Delaware State 137-221, 184-202, 192-183, 162-206, 209-148, 214-182, 200-180 in the second round of bracket play.
Ten nationally ranked women's bowling teams with among the 18-team field competing in the event that will end Sunday at Emerald Lanes in Houston. The Bearkats finished the tournament with a 10-5 record and a 190.8 team average with 14,881 pins in 15 matches.
Nebraska rolled up a 14-1 record to win the tournament championship. Central Missouri and Stephen F. Austin both went 11-4.
Saturday, Sam Houston opened with a 983-964 loss to Arkansas State. The Kats bounced back to defeat Texas Southern 960-816, Grambling State 949-654, Jackson State 905-900 and Alabama State 989-849. The SHSU women fell to McKendree 904-895 in their final match of the day.
Friday in baker total pins matches, the Bearkats defeated Prairie View 979-897, North Carolina A&T 940-910, Delaware State 963-921, Adelphi 1,082-926 and Delaware State 1,012-891. Monmouth handed the No. 3 ranked SHSU women their only loss by a narrow 1,037-1,032 margin.
