Southland Soccer Tournament Starts Thursday

The Southland Soccer Tournament gets started Thursday and for the first time in school history, Sam Houston State will be able to sit back and wait for the winner of the first match. The Bearkats earned the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of the match between No. 3 Houston Baptist and No. 6 Southeastern Louisiana.
Lamar's Lady Cardinal Soccer Complex is the site for this year's event, which gets underway with the matchup of HBU and Southeastern, Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Sam Houston will play Friday at 4:30 p.m. against either the Huskies or Lions.
Stephen F. Austin earned the No. 1 seed for the fourth consecutive season after posting a perfect 11-0-0 mark in league action.
Houston Baptist completed the regular season 7-1-3 in league action for the program's first women's soccer tournament appearance in the conference. The Huskies finished with the second lowest goals-allowed percentage with one goal per game.
McNeese State (8-9-1, 6-5 SLC) will enter the Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will play fifth-seeded Nicholls in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Lady Cardinal Soccer Complex.
Nicholls will enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed after posting a 5-6-0 record in league play. The Colonels ended the regular season tied with Southeastern Louisiana, but defeated the Lady Lions 4-2 Oct. 31 to win the tie breaker.
Southeastern Louisiana posted a 5-6-0 Southland record, but lost the head-to-head tie breaker against Nicholls to lose out of the fifth-place seed. The Lady Lions won the Southland Conference Tournament in 2013 and the regular-season title in 2010.
The Bearkats are playing to make their first ever trip to the Women's College Cup held Nov. 15-17. The 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship bracket will be announced the second weekend in November, prior to First Round competition.
