
Weekend action at North Texas Shootout

The Sam Houston softball team returns to action Friday morning at the University of North Texas Shootout in Denton.
The Bearkats will play Stephen F. Austin at 9 a.m. and Texas State at 1 p.m. on Friday. Saturday Sam Houston takes on Abilene Christian at 9 a.m. and Prairie View A&M at 11 a.m.
The results of the first three days of play will form a seeded bracket for Sunday's championship round which will feature the No. 1 and 2 seeds facing off at 11:30 a.m.
Sam Houston stands 1-5 after the first week of action, but the Kats' schedule has included national powerhouses like Texas A&M, Nebraska and Houston.
“We're working on getting better every day,” SHSU head coach Bob Brock said. “We've seen a lot of good things in the first few games. The team is excited about another opportunity to play some talented opponents.”
Center fielder Tayler Gray leads Sam Houston at the plate with a .421 average. Gray has two home runs and a double. Designated player Hillary Adams blasted three homers during the first week of action.
