After medaling in the final two events of day one of the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, the Sam Houston State men's track and field program captured six top three finishes on its way to accumulating 106.5 points in a second place finish.
In the 400m dash, Rodney Jones tied a meet record of 47.34 that had stood since 1977. Jones's first place finish would mark the second consecutive conference meet the junior had placed first in the 400m.
Senior Matthew Viverette captured a first place finish and time of 8.01 in the 60m hurdles to earn the Bearkats 10 points. The win would mark Viverette's fourth first place finish of the indoor season.
Not to be outdone, sophomore De'Quad Binder captured a mark of 1:52.47 and a first place finish in the 800m run.
In the men's triple jump, senior Charles White would secure second with a leap of 50 ft. followed by teammate Chris Theriot's fifth place jump of 47-5.75.
In the 3000m run, SHSU junior Karl Schreiber placed third with a time of 8:33.71.
