Tyler Junior College edges Bearkats 4-3

Kayla Stevenson, Karen Martinez and Bella Costa won at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles in a 4-3 loss to Tyler Junior College in a women's tennis exhibition dual match Saturday afternoon.
Stevenson defeated Kylie Reynaud 6-3 6-0. Martinez topped Alle Murdock 6-2 6-3. Costa was a winner over Kerry Wiegand 6-3 6-2.
Sam Houston opens Southland Conference play Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Bearkats play host to Oral Roberts.
“It was a tough loss, but you can never feel too bad about a close match with Tyler,” SHSU head coach Jim Giachino said. “They are multiple junior college national champions for a reason. With all the bad weather we've had lately, it was good to get some match play in before opening Southland Conference play.
