The Sam Houston baseball team dropped a third straight game for the first time since the 2012 season, as they lost 4-2 on the road to Central Arkansas. The No. 16 Bearkats will try to salvage the series in game three at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
SHSU managed to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning before UCA answered with two runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead. The Bears tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning.
Central Arkansas got their second straight complete-game performance on the mound. Chris Caudle allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four.
Bearkat starter Sam Odom allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched and reliever Alan Scott pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run.
Designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn and shortstop Corey Toups each had the RBIs for the Kats. No Bearkat player had more than one hit.
Dirk Masters is schedule to start Sunday's series finale and will try to prevent the Kats from being swept for the first time since 2011.
