SHSU swept at UCA

A pair of three-run innings was all that Central Arkansas needed to beat Sam Houston 6-4 Sunday and complete the three-game sweep. The sweep of the No. 16 Bearkats (16-8) is the first since 2011.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Kats, who have lost four straight. They travel to Texas A&M (16-8) Tuesday and return to Don Sanders Stadium for a game against McNeese State (14-8) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

UCA took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. A two-run single by Nick Rougeau opened the scoring and a bases-loaded walk added another run.

Jason Simms came out of the bullpen with one out in the fifth inning and gave up a two-run double to Scott Zimmerle, who ended up pitching two innings and getting the save.  The two runs were the first earned runs Simms has allowed this season.

Right fielder Hayden Simerly was 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Anthony Azar and Shea Pierce each drove in a run.

Andrew Godail, Seth Holbert and Logan Boyd combined to pitch the final 3 2/3 innings without allowing a run.
