White Named Newcomer of the Year

Junior Alisa White has been named the Southland Conference women's golf Newcomer of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.
White, who is also a member of the all-Southland first-team, recorded a 76.52 stroke average in 31 rounds this season. In 11 events, White had two top-10 finishes, including a second-place tie at the Islander Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, in February. She is the sixth Bearkat golfer to earn first-team honors.
The Hereford product is the third Sam Houston golfer to be named newcomer of the year, joining Meghann Stevens (2010) and Stephanie Page (2007).
Bearkat freshman Paige Nelson was named as an honorable mention selection to the team.
Lamar's Wenny Chang was tabbed the freshman of the year and her coach Brian White was selected as the conference's coach of the year.
Lamar led all schools with four all-conference selections while UCA, ORU, Sam Houston, McNeese, HBU and SFA all had one apiece. Two golfers made a return appearance on the all-conference teams, with Acosta and Ngo both making their second honor.
