For the second consecutive week, the Sam Houston State women's track and field program has swept the conference's weekly awards as senior Sabrina Starr and junior Adrienne Quillin were named the Southland Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Wednesday.
The squad spent Saturday at the Islanders Dash in Corpus Christi where Starr captured a first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a posted time of 13.68 seconds and Quillin set a facility and school record with a toss of 191 ft. 8 inches in the hammer throw.
It would be Quillin's second consecutive week to receive the league's award. The Houston native (Klein Forest H.S.) has broken a school record in three consecutive meets and currently ranks first in the league and 19th in the NCAA West Regional in her category.
For Starr, the accolade would be her first of the outdoor season and second of the year. The LaPorte native (LaPorte H.S.) leads the Southland in her category while placing 23rd in the NCAA West.
The duos next action will come at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Abilene on Saturday.
