
Women complete action at NCAA West Meet

Danielle Demas missed qualifying for a trip to the NCAA finals in the 100 meter hurdles by only four 100ths of a second Saturday night at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Demas finished 15th in the quarterfinals with a time of 13:48 seconds. Melia Cox of Southern California earned the last berth in the finals with a clocking of 13.44.
Sabrina Starr placed 21st in the 100 meter hurdles with a mark of 13.72.
Demas and Starr earned the spots in Saturday's quarterfinals with marks of 13.36 and 13.77 to finish ninth and 18th, respectively, in the prelims.
Ashley Jenkins and Adrienne Quillin placed 38th and 41st, respectively, in the women's hammer throw Saturday. Quillin produced a throw of 168' 8” while Jenkins hurled the hammer 167' 5”.
In women's action Friday for Sam Houston, Kaylynne Wright placed 42nd in the triple jump with a mark of 37' 6.75”. Wright hit her mark on her first attempt. She fouled on her second jump and went 37' 6.5” inches on her final attempt.
Thursday in the first day of action at the NCAA West meet, the Bearkats' Lygia Foreman placed 39th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.96. Southland women's pole vault champion Kara Whitson cleared the bar at 12' 3.25” on her second attempt but missed in all three tries at 12' 9”.
The qualifiers out of the West region will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
In order to advance to the finals in Oregon, competitors must finish among the top 12 in their individual event
