
No. 28 Kats look to stay hot at HBU

The No. 28 Sam Houston State baseball team is riding an eight-game winning streak and sits just one game out of first place as they travel to Houston Baptist for a three-game weekend series. The Bearkats (34-14, 16-8 SLC) and Huskies (22-23, 11-13 SLC) are scheduled to get the series underway Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Husky Field. The series continues Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the finale Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS
Friday: RHP Tyler Eppler (6-5, 4.00 ERA) vs. RHP Taylor Wright (2-8, 6.68 ERA)
Saturday: RHP Jason Simms (4-2, 2.67 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Lower (6-2, 3.19 ERA)
Sunday: RHP Sam Odom (8-2 2.45 ERA) vs. RHP Curtis Jones (4-3, 2.89 ERA)
With just six games left in the conference regular season the Kats are one game back of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who hosts Lamar this weekend. SHSU is tied for second place with McNeese State and Nicholls State. The Bearkats and Islanders face off at Don Sanders Stadium in the final weekend of the regular season.
Sam Houston's eight-game winning streak has them back in the national rankings after a six week absence. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association tabbed the Bearkats 28th this week, the same as they debuted at on March 3.
Houston Baptist dropped a midweek contest, 6-1, to No. 14 Rice Wednesday at Reckling Park.
