
Nelson leads ULM Tourney after two rounds

MONROE, La. -- Sophomore Paige Nelson has a five-stroke lead after the first two rounds of the Fred Marx Invitational, hosted by Louisiana-Monroe at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club. The Bearkats are four strokes behind ULM in third place going into the final round.
The tournament concludes with the final round Tuesday morning.
An Honorable Mention All-Southland selection as a freshman last season, Nelson continued her hot start to the season after finishing sixth to open the season at the FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate.
The Creekview High School product matched her season and career best round of 70 and was a career-best two-under par.
Nelson will be looking for her first win at a collegiate tournament. She finished third at the Southland Conference Championship last season.
Louisiana-Monroe is in first place on their home course with a combined team score of 607, while Arkansas-Little Rock (610) is in second place. The Bearkats are just one stroke back of the Trojans in third place. Houston Baptist is eight strokes back of the Kats in fourth place. UCA is tied for sixth, SFA is eighth, McNeese State is ninth and Incarnate Word is 11th.
Bearkat senior Alisa White (75-79-154) is sitting just outside of the top-10 in a tie for 11th. Freshman Sarah Black (80-76-156) is tied for 18th. Junior Nicole Budnik (78-80-158) is just outside of the top-20, tied for 24th while junior Abigayle Corson (85-79-164) is tied for 47th.
