MONROE, La. -- Sam Houston sophomore Paige Nelson earned individual medalist honors at the Fred Marx Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Monroe at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club, for the first collegiate tournament win of her young career.

The Bearkats finished runner-up to the hosts, Louisiana-Monroe, and were just four strokes back of the Warhawks. Houston Baptist was fourth, Central Arkansas finished sixth, SFA was eighth, McNeese State was ninth and Incarnate Word finished 11^th.

An Honorable Mention All-Southland selection as a freshman last season, Nelson continued her hot start to the season after finishing sixth to open the year at the FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate.

The Creekview High School product matched her season and career best round of 70 and was a career-best two-under par in the second round. She finished one-over par and four strokes ahead of ULM's Ines Fendt in second place.

Senior Alisa White (75-79-77-231) finished in the top-15 while junior Nicole Budnik (78-80-74-232) finished strong to place just outside of the top-15.

Freshman Sarah Black (80-76-81-237) placed 29^th in her second collegiate tournament. Junior Abigayle Corson (85-79-77-241) finished 42^nd.

Shelby Hardy is the last Bearkat to claim an individual tournament title after she claimed three titles, including the Southland championship, her senior season in 2012-13. Alisa White finished second at the Corpus Christi Islanders Classic last season.
