
Bowlers stand 6-4 at Midwinter Invitational

Sam Houston stands in 10th place at the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invitational after the second day of the tournament at the Jonesboro Bowling Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Bearkats fell to No. 8 Stephen F. Austin 1,017-901 and No. 20 Tulane to open the day. The SHSU women bounced back to defeat Louisiana Tech 955-820 then split their final two matches with a 1,012-953 loss to Alabama-Birmingham and a 917-827 defeat of No. 13 ranked McKendree.
The Bearkats enter best-of-seven bracket play Sunday as the No. 10 seed. No. 1 ranked Nebraska leads the tournament. The Cornhuskers have won eight of their nine matches at Jonesboro.
Maryland-Eastern Shore, Central Missouri, Arkansas State and Stephen F. Austin all have won seven matches and are seeded two through five on the final day.
Sam Houston is 6-4 at the Arkansas State Mid-Winter event and has totaled 9,467 pins.
The Bearkats opened play in the tournament Friday with four victories in five matches.
The Kats opened Friday with a loss against home team Arkansas State, falling 1,039-898. But the SHSU women bounced back to defeat No. 4 Central Missouri 963-848, Alabama State 998-873, Jackson State 937-804 and No. 6 Vanderbilt 1,130-917.
Sam Houston now stands 57-24 in dual match play this season after Saturday's results.
