Netters pick up SLC wins in Louisiana

Maddie Mortimore and Emma Barkovic reached the finals of the No. 4 singles and Fabienne Gettwart and Mila Milanovic both won the back-draw at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to highlight action for the Sam Houston women's tennis team this weekend.
The Bearkats played in the Northwestern State Invitational in Natchitoches against an eight-team field that included seven Southland Conference squads.
“Overall, this weekend was another step forward,” Sam Houston head coach Jim Giachino said. “There were some very good wins and most of the losses were close, hard-fought battles.”
The team picked up 10 singles victories and two doubles wins.
“We still need work on some fundamentals, but we're seeing much better decision-making in their shot selection during competition. We have two weeks before the regional tournament to grow mentally and tactically stronger.”
