Four Bearkats picked up singles victories Friday as the Sam Houston women's tennis team played in its third intercollegiate tournament of the 2015 fall schedule at the Northwestern State Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
Fabiene Gettwart lost to Katya Lapayeva of Lamar 6-3 7-5 at number one singles but bounced back to defeated Alexandra Way from UL-Lafayette 6-1 6-1 in the consolations round.
Carrie Casey defeated Ceci Mercier from Southeastern Louisiana 7-5 6-4 in the number three singles first round.
Both Maddie Mortimore and Emma Barkovic won their first rounds in the number four singles. Mortimore defeated Lera Terenteyeva of SFA 6-2 6-1 while Barkovic downed Vivian Borbely of McNeese 7-6 (2), 4-6 1-0 (6).
Caitlyn Mitchell lost at number five singles to Stephanie Marchena of Lamar 6-3 7-5.
Gettwart and Milanovic paired for a 6-4 win in the number two doubles while Mitchell and Mortimore lost 7-5.
Action in the Northwestern State Invitational concludes Saturday afternoon.
