
Bowlers stand 6-4 after second day at Nebraska

Sam Houston started the day strong but faltered in the afternoon as the No. 6 ranked Bearkats won two of their six traditional team matches Friday in the Big Red Classic tournament hosted in Lincoln by the University of Nebraska.
The Bearkats defeated McKendree 1,067 pints to 995 in their opening match and knocked off Valparaiso 996 pins to 889 in the second contest of the day.
Carrie Hopkinson posted the high individual pin fall in both matches with a 279 in the win over McKendree and 254 against Valparaiso.
Arkansas State started Friday's rough patch for the Kats with a 996 to 925 victory. Anna Groce led Sam Houston with a 235 individual score.
The Kats lost their next three matches as well, falling to host Nebraska 1023 to 886, Wisconsin-Whitewater 947 to 884 and Central Missouri 1008 to 932. Stephanie Zavala had the top individual pin fall with a 202 in the loss to the Cornhuskers. Hopkinson led versus Whitewater with a 211 total. Janine Kuwahara knocked down 202 pins against UCM.
The results Friday give Sam Houston a 6-4 record in the event. Thursday Sam Houston defeated three nationally-ranked as the Bearkats went 4-0 on the first day of the Big Red Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska Thursday.
The Kats defeated No. 1 Nebraska 1076 to 1025, No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater 1099 to 1002 and No. 8 Central Missouri 986 to 964. Sam Houston also topped unranked Lincoln 912 Thursday night.
Final standings for Friday's traditional team competition saw Nebraska finish first with a 6,072 pin fall followed by Wisconsin-Whitewater 5,853, Central Missouri 5,801, McKendree 5,776, Arkansas State 5,768, Sam Houston in sixth 5,690, Valparaiso 5,470 and Lincoln 4,662.
Saturday's final day schedule calls for teams to play four traditional team games beginning at 7:45 a.m. The tournament awards ceremony will take place honoring each day's champion and the all-tourrnament team following competition.
