Box Score Shernise Robertson led both teams with 21 points as the University of Arkansas defeated Sam Houston 67-47 in a non-conference women's basketball game Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville.
Robertson went 4-of-9 from three point range and 10-of-13 at the foul line. She also was credited with one assist. Jessica Jackson led the Hogs with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The loss drops Sam Houston to 0-2 while Arkansas stands 2-0 for the season.
Sam Houston played the Razorbacks closely throughout the first period. Angela Beadle, who ended the day with 11 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds, tied the game 6-6 with a jumper five minutes into the contest. Forty seconds later, Laurynn McGowen gave the Kats their only lead of the day with a free throw to put the squad up 7-6 with 4:36 remaining in the period.
In the final four minutes of the first period and the first six of the second, Arkansas caught fire with an 12-2 run to go up 18-9. Down only 10-7 after the first 10 minutes, the Bearkats only scored a pair of free throws in the first six minutes of the second period.
Arkansas eventually built a 30-15 halftime lead and outscored the Kats 20-12 in the third period. Sam Houston bounced back, outscoring the Hogs 20-17 in the final 10 minutes.
Sam Houston shot only 22 percent from the field (11-of-50). The Razorbacks outscored the Kats 30 to 12 in the paint.
The Bearkat women play their first home game of the year Friday in the annual “Pack the House “ game at 11 a.m. versus Our Lady of the Lake.
