Bowling places fourth at Hawk Classic in Delaware

Sam Houston finished fourth in best-of-seven baker bracket play Sunday at the Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Delaware hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
After winning 11 of their 12 matches on Friday and Saturday, the No. 4 ranked Bearkats fell in three tightly contested matches on Sunday.
In the opener against No. 9 ranked Central Michigan the Mules edged the Kats four games to two. Sam Houston won the second and fourth games by scores of 210 to 196 and 178 to 166. UCM won the first game 204 to 136 and the third 200 to 178 and closed out the match with wins of 247 to 183 and 185 to 159.
No. 3 ranked Vanderbilt had to go seven games to earn its win over the Bearkats. Vandy's winning score was 204 – 185, 188 – 207, 199 – 189, 178 – 193, 203 – 212, 213 – 182, 200 – 188.
No. 12 Maryland Eastern Shore won the third place playoff with a score of 190 – 160, 215 – 171, 180 – 177 and 191 – 179.
Anna Groce and Janine Kuwahara of Sam Houston placed second and tenth in the individual standings after traditional team play on Saturday. Groce posted a pinfall average of 213.33 while Kuwahara posted a 203.0 mean.
Sam Houston finished the event with a team total pin fall of 197.82, the best in the field.
