For the third time in the last four years, Sam Houston women's bowling coach Brad Hagen has been named to the Bowlers Journal International's 100 Top Coaches list.
Bowlers Journal International (BJI) began its annual list of the top 100 bowling coaches in 2006.
"No sport survives and thrives without a core of qualified men and women who can teach the basics to beginners and the intricacies to advanced players," BJI's Top 100 Coaches article said. The magazine's editorial staff annually gives recognition to coaches from the youth bowling ranks to the professional level.
During the 2014-15 women's bowling season, the Bearkats rolled up a record of 91 victories and only 49 losses in dual match play, earned their fifth consecutive top 10 National Ten Pin Coaches Association (NTCA) final ranking and reached the NCAA Championships semifinals for the second consecutive year.
Now in its sixth season of competition in women's bowling, the Sam Houston program has been ranked in every NTCA regular season poll since October 28, 2010 (the Kats' inaugural year in the sport). Midway through the 2015-16 season, the Bearkats stand No. 4 in the current national rankings with a 48-21 dual match record so far this season.
Sam Houston won the NCAA national championship in women's bowling in 2014.
The Bearkat women's bowling team returns to action Friday, January 15, when they travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to compete in the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invitational.
Sam Houston will compete in six regular season tournaments during the spring tournament, ending the schedule with the Southland Bowling Championship in New Orleans, La.
The 2016 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship will be held April 14 through 16 in Brunswick, New Jersey.
