
Sam wins Friday competition at TRACK Kat Klash

No. 4 ranked Sam Houston edged No. 8 Stephen F. Austin by just 10 pins to earn the team title in a one-day baker team match competition to begin the TRACK Kat Klash women's bowling tournament Friday in Houston.
Both teams won four of their six matches, but the Kats produced a team pinfall of 5,906 to edge the Lumberjacks whose totaled 5,896 pins.
Defending NCAA champion Nebraska went 5-1 on the day but finished third in the total pins competition with a total of 5,777.
No. 9 Central Missouri placed fourth with a pin fall average of 190.2 and a 4-2 match record on the day. Finishing fifth through tenth were No. 14 LIU-Brooklyn (2-4, 181.8), No. 24 Adelphi (3-3, 180.2), Texas Southern (3-3, 171.2), Louisiana Tech (4-2, 163.9), No. 25 Jackson State (1-5, 161.3) and Grambling State (0-6, 122.6).
Sam Houston opened the day's baker team match competition with a couple of close losses. Central Michigan won over the Kats by 10 pins 929 to 919 and Nebraska edge the tournament hosts by 11 pins 1,043 to 1,032.
The Bearkats bounced back for four consecutive victories, defeating Adelphi 909 to 981, Grambling 951 to 613, Jackson State 1,063 to 842 and ending the day with a 1,026 to 879 victory in a rematch with the Cornhuskers.
The event is being held at Emerald Lanes located at 9307 Boone Road in Houston.
Each team is slated for 14 matches on Friday and Saturday with best of seven baker bracket play on Sunday to determine the championship. Saturday and Sunday will be a two-day event with total pins being used from Saturdays 5 sets to position ourselves for Sunday's match play.
Team awards will be given for Saturday and Sunday's play for the champion and runner-up. The all-tournament team will consist of the top 5 averages from Saturdays Team Competition.
