The Sam Houston State baseball team will head back out on the road for a three-game weekend series at Louisiana-Monroe. Originally planned to start Friday, the series schedule has been altered to have a doubleheader Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS:
GAME 1: LHP Andrew Godail (0-1, 2.08 ERA) vs. RHP Alex Hermeling (1-1, 2.70 ERA)
GAME 2: RHP Sam Odom (0-1, 3.00 ERA) vs. RHP Brandon Bell (1-1, 9.00 ERA)
GAME 3: LHP Logan Boyd (1-0, 4.91 ERA) vs. LHP Trey Setzer (0-0, 1.29 ERA)
Riding on the back of two straight wins, the Kats have a 5-4 overall record. The Bearkat offense really got rolling in the last two games, cranking 10 doubles and scoring a total of 19 runs. Displaying more of an aggressive approach, SHSU stole eight bases against Prairie View, which is the third most ever by the Kats in a single game.
Junior first baseman Spence Rahm has broken out in a big way, going 7-for-10 with five doubles a home run and eight RBI in the last two games. For the season he is hitting .389 with six runs scored and 12 RBI.
Senior outfielder Travis Lee is riding a 13-game hitting streak that dates back to last season. He is the only Bearkat to have a hit in all nine games this season. The Magnolia product has hit safely in 21 of his last 24 games.
Starters Andrew Godail and Sam Odom are looking for their first wins of the season after pitching well in both of their first two starts. Logan Boyd won his first start of the season when he allowed just one run in six innings against Wichita State.
After opening the season 1-2 at their home tournament, the Warhawks took two-of-three against Stephen F. Austin last weekend. ULM sits 3-3 overall after having both of its midweek games this week postponed due to ice and snow.
Warhawk shortstop Kodie Tidwell was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week after he batted .583 with no strike outs in 14 plate appearances last weekend. He's batting .400 with six RBI and five runs scored this season.
Sam Houston will be back at Don Sanders Stadium to host McNeese State Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m. before travelling to play Baylor the next night at 6:30 p.m. The Bearkats will turn to Southland play next weekend when they host New Orleans for a three-game series.
