Kats salvage series with 9-3 win

NATCHITOCHES, La. -- The Bearkats cranked out nine runs on 17 hits and Ryan Brinley tossed five scoreless innings to lead Sam Houston to a 9-3 win in the series finale against Northwestern State.

Brinley made his first start of the season and didn't allow a hit through the first four innings of the ballgame. The junior right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out three in his five innings.

Dylan Ebbs and Alex Bisacca each pitched two innings in relief to close out the victory. Bisacca struck out one batter and kept the Demons off the board in the final two innings.

Shortstop Miles Manning was 3-for-4 with three RBI, while first baseman Spence Rahm was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Making his first start at second base this season, Jake MacWilliam was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Left fielder Bryce Johnson, right fielder Travis Lee and designated hitter Dylan Ebbs each finished the game with two hits.

Lee's hit upped his streak of reaching base safely to 24 straight games, including all 20 games this season.

Sam Houston blew the game open with four runs in the second inning. The Kats jumped out to a 9-0 lead going to the bottom of the seventh before the Demons plated three runs.

Northwestern State will make the trip to Huntsville for a single game Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m.

Sam Houston State athletics has teamed up with Student Activities, Bandera Grill and Bill Fick Ford to throw a pregame tailgate party and crawfish boil prior to the Bearkat baseball team's home game with Baylor Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

The “Bearkat Country Crawfish Boil” will get started at 4:00 p.m. when Bowers Boulevard next to Don Sanders Stadium is shut down for the festivities.

Free crawfish will be provided for the first 400 students (with an active Black Bearkat One Card) and will be sold for $10 per person for faculty, staff and alumni. The event will also have a live performance by The StringBenders.

The party ends at 6:00 p.m. so that fans can head into the stadium to help cheer the Bearkats to a victory over Baylor.
