
Weather alters SHSU vs Nicholls baseball series

Sam Houston State and Nicholls will play a scheduled doubleheader Friday starting at 12:00 p.m. and the teams will play as weather allows.
Originally slated to play three games Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Bearkats and Colonels will attempt to play two complete games Friday. If weather forces a stoppage of play, it will resume at the next available opportunity.

PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS:
Game 1 – LHP Andrew Godail (1-3, 2.67 ERA) vs. RHP Marc Frazier (1-3, 3.76 ERA)
Game 2 – LHP Logan Boyd (2-2, 3.90 ERA) vs. LHP Grant Borne (1-2, 1.24 ERA)
Game 3 – RHP Ryan Brinley (1-2, 4.50 ERA) vs. RHP Justin Sinibaldi (3-1, 0.82 ERA)
The Bearkats are 10-12 after a midweek series split with the Baylor Bears. Sophomore pitchers Dylan Ebbs and Sam Odom combined to beat the Bears 4-3 Wednesday in Waco.
Ebbs has also been the Kats best hitter recently. He has a .378 batting average, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in 13 starts. Ebbs was 2-for-4 with a run scored in the 4-3 win over BU.
SHSU is 4-2 in league play after sweeping New Orleans and dropping 2-of-3 at Northwestern State. With a series win this weekend the Bearkats can stay in the top half of the Southland standings.
Nicholls is 11-8-1 overall and 3-3 in Southland play. The Colonels split a midweek series with Lamar in Thibodaux with a 1-0 win and a 9-7 loss in 11 innings.
Third baseman Kyle Reese is the team's leading hitter with a .342 batting average. He leads the squad in extra-base hits with seven doubles and two triples. The only other regular starter batting over .300 is designated hitter Marc Frazier with a .327 average in 15 games.
For the second straight week the Kats will face a very strong pitching staff in league play. Nicholls leads the Southland with a 2.06 staff ERA while opponents are just batting .227 off of Colonel pitching.
