The Sam Houston women's tennis team opens its 2015 Southland Conference schedule this weekend with a road trip across the Sabine River to take on Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans.
The Bearkats open league play Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hammond, La., against the Lions. The trip continues Sunday at 10 a.m. at New Orleans.
Sam Houston is 0-6 in dual match play and has not seen action since their trip to Las Cruces, New Mexico in mid-February.
The SHSU women's singles line-up consists of returning letter winners Olivia Battye, Karen Martinez and Maddie Mortimore and newcomers Bailey VanDyke, Fabienne Gettwart, Mila Milanovic and Caitlyn Mitchell.
With all the weather problems in the past few weeks, Southeastern Louisiana has only played three matches, posting a 2-1 record with victories over Alcorn State and Southern. Renee Villarreal and Lucia Bustamente are unbeaten in the Lions' three matches.
The New Orleans Privateers bring a 6-5 record into Sunday's contest. Top players for UNO are Anna Segarra Ruis who boasts an 8-1 record in singles. All eight victories have come in straight sets.
The next home match for Sam Houston is Saturday, March 14, when the Kats play host to Nicholls at 1 p.m. at the McAdams Tennis Center.
