Kats Continue To Excel In Austin

Ashley Jenkins and Adrienne Quillin finished second and third in the hammer and Kara Whitson was third in the pole vault as the Sam Houston State women had an exceptional day in the field events at the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin Saturday.
Whitson's vault of 13 feet, 7.25 inches marked her career best outdoor mark at Sam Houston and equals school record holder Jennie Sewell's mark as the second highest pole vault by a Bearkat woman.
Jenkins hurled the hammer 194 feet, six inches and Quillin posted a mark of 190 feet 10 inches. Ashley Thompson placed fifth in the pole vault with a performance of 12 feet, 5.5 inches.
In the running events, Danielle Demas continued to dominate in the 100 meter hurdles with a fourth place time of 13.32 seconds. Two weeks ago she set a Sam Houston record with a 13.16 performance in the Texas Relays.
Elizabeth Lyssy was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, four inches. Kaylynne Wright also brought home a fifth place performance with a leap of 18 feet, 4.25 inches in the long jump.
One of two competitors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Nina Gonzales ran a time of 12.00.28.
