
Golfers stand fifth at Southland Conference

Led by Alisa White who ranks fifth in the individual standings, Sam Houston stands in fifth place after the first 18 holes of the Southland Conference women's golf championship Monday.
The eight teams were able to complete Monday's round on the par 72, 6,262-yard Hills Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney despite a three-hour delay due to rain.
Central Arkansas leads the team standings with a 13-over-par total of 301. Lamar, the defending champion and pre-tournament favorite, is six strokes back in second place with a 307 total. Stephen F. Austin is in third with a 311 and Houston Baptist in fourth at 312.
Sam Houston posted 316 total to rank fifth. Following the Bearkats are McNeese State 319, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 323 and Incarnate Word 339.
UCA's Brenda Gonzales fired an even-par 72 to lead the individual medalist standings. Her teammate Malin Senneryd is a stroke back at 73. Taylor Stockton of Lamar shot a 75 to rank third and SFA's Caitlyn Cassidy stands fourth with a 76.
Sam Houston scores and standings include White in fifth with a 77 total followed by Sarah Black 14th 79, Paige Nelson and Celeste Lo both 22nd with 80s and Nicole Budnik 36th 84.
The second round of the tournament will begin Tuesday morning with the final round on Friday.
