With rain in the forecast again for an SHSU sports weekend, the start of Sam Houston versus Abilene Christian softball doubleheader Friday has been moved up at 11 a.m. at the Softball Complex.
The Bearkats and the Wildcats face off in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend. The third contest Saturday still is set for 3 p.m. but also could change due to weather.
Sam Houston enters the series with a four-game winning streak. The Bearkats defeated Houston 2-0 in a non-conference game a week ago Wednesday, took two from Houston Baptist on the road Saturday by scores of 5-2 and 8-1 and edged Texas Southern 6-5 in an 11-inning duel Wednesday night.
Right fielder Sarah Allison has the hottest bat for the Bearkats, coming into Friday's action with a seven-game hitting streak. Allison blasted a walk-off run-scoring single up the middle for the game winning hit in the 11th against the TSU Tigers.
Third baseman Peyton Webb and second baseman Dani Allen boast batting averages of .318 and .310, respectively, to lead Sam Houston at the plate for the season.
The Bearkats enter the weekend with a 13-24 record and stand 4-12 in Southland action. Abilene Christian owns a 9-29 record for the year and is 3-15 in league play.
