Sam Houston No. 5 In Final NTCA Rankings

The Sam Houston women's bowling team is ranked No. 5 in the final National Tenpin Coaches Association Poll announced Wednesday.
The ranking is the second highest final ranking in the five-year history of the Bearkat program. Sam Houston was No. 7 in both the 2011 and 2013 final polls, No. 9 in the 2012 end-of-the-year rankings and No. 1 last season after defeating Nebraska in the national championship final.
The Cornhuskers, this year's national champion, rank No. 1 in the NTCA final poll. Nebraska defeated Stephen F. Austin in the finals. The Lumberjacks stand No. 2 in the end-of-the-year rankings.
Sam Houston reached the NCAA Final Four again this year, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the quarterfinals of the championships in Saint Louis. FDU and Arkansas State stand No. 3 and 4 in the final rankings.
Filling out the rest of the top 10 are, in order, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Vanderbilt, Central Missouri, North Carolina A&T and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Sam Houston completed the year with a 91-49 overall dual match record. Fifty-two of those wins came over teams in the final top 20. The Bearkats posted victories of top 10 teams 29 times.
“Our program has been ranked among the top 10 in the country since its inaugural season. That's a credit to the outstanding student-athletes who have done such a great job representing this university,” Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. “It was a thrill to return to the Final Four again this year.”
