
Five Seniors See Final Action in SFA Series

Five seniors who have made important contributions to the success of the Bearkat softball program will be playing in their final Southland Conference series this weekend as Sam Houston plays host to Stephen F. Austin to wrap up the 2015 season.
The five seniors have combined to play 773 games for Sam Houston since the 2011 season. The Bearkats and the Lumberjacks begin the series at the Softball Complex with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday. The series concludes with a 3 p.m. single game Saturday.
Hillary Adams, Sarah Allison, Haley Baros, Meme Quinn and Jessica Slater will be honored Saturday in a special pre-game “Senior Day” ceremony.
Adams stands as the all-time leading home run hitter in Sam Houston softball history with 39 career shots out of the park. The Elgin High School product is a three-time All-Southland performer. He collegiate total of 133 runs batted in also is a school record. She has played in 199 games, starting 192 times. A general business major, she comes into the final series with a .292 career batting average that includes 158 hits, 21 doubles and a triple.
Allison is one of the most versatile players to play for Sam Houston, having earned All-Southland honors at both first base and shortstop and now starting in right field. She ranks as the Bearkats' second all-time leading home run hitter with 30 in her career. Her 493 career put outs rank ninth in Sam career annals. She owns a .250 career batting average that includes 109 hits and 19 doubles. An Academic All-Southland Conference selection, the A&M Consolidated High School product is a master's degree candidate in exercise science with a 3.6 overall grade point average.
Baros has been a four-year starter in the circle for Sam Houston, pitching in 95 games. The Bay City product has totaled 328 innings, facing more than 1500 batters. She owns 24 career victories and struck out 128 opponents. Baros was named All-Southland Conference in both 2013 and 2014. She was the winning pitcher in two of Sam Houston's playoff wins in route to the Southland tournament finals in 2013. A Southland Academic Honor Roll selection, she is an interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.38 overall grade point average.
Quinn has pitched in 87 games, starting in the circle 50 times for the Bearkats. The Tomball High School product has faced 1,355 batters, posting 217 strike outs in 289 innings. She leads the 2015 squad in both strike outs and total victories. Quinn also has seen action as a pinch runner in clutch situations. A Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, she holds a 3.47 overall grade point average as a Human Resources Management major.
Slater has been a fixture in center field for the Bearkats, having started in the outfield 164 times and playing in 194 games. An All-Southland Conference selection, she owns a .306 career batting average with 150 hits in 491 at bats. A threat on the bases, the Katy High School product has totaled 47 career steals in 53 attempts. In the outfield she has totaled 2 put outs. An Academic All-Southland Conference performer with a 3.76 overall grade point average, Jessica is an interdisciplinary studies major.
“Our five seniors have contributed so much to this program both on the field and off,” Sam Houston head coach Bob Brock said. "They have been a pleasure to coach.”
