Softball Hosts UH Cougars Wednesday

The Sam Houston softball squad takes a break from Southland Conference action Wednesday to play host to the University of Houston in a 6:30 p.m. non-conference contest at the Softball Complex.
The two teams will face off for the 25th time in school history.
Houston enters the week after taking a series win over East Carolina last weekend. The Cougars won in walk-off fashion during both games of Friday's doubleheader. A week ago, the Cougars dropped a heartbreaker to No. 25 Texas on Wednesday, 13-12.
UH senior Selena Hernandez was named The American Conference Player of the Week for her outstanding performance at the plate. She went 3-for-3 against the Longhorns pitching staff with two jacks, four runs scored and three RBIs. Hernandez belted her fifth HR of the season in game two of the ECU series to tie the game, 1-1.
Sam Houston is looking to end a three-game losing streak after getting swept in a Southland Conference series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Top players at the plate for the Bearkats this season are third baseman Peyton Webb (.323), second baseman Dani Allen (.297), center fielder Jessica Slater (.288), outfielder Sarah Allison (.264) and catcher Tiffany Castillo (.264).
Allison, Webb and designated player Hillary Adams lead the Bearkats in runs batted in. Allison has totaled 21, Webb 20 and Adams 18. Adams leads the team with seven home runs.
Following Wednesday's contest with the Cougars, Sam Houston returns to Southland Conference play with a road series at Houston Baptist on Friday and Saturday.
