
Strong performances highlight SLC final day

Stephen F. Austin took the team championship, catching the Sam Houston women in the final events, but the Bearkats came away with some outstanding performances on the final day of the 2015 Southland Conference Track & Field Championships in Hammond, La.
The Lumberjacks scored 148 points to edge a Sam Houston team that totaled 143.5. Northwestern State was third with 90 points..
The 4x100 relay team of Danielle Demas, Elizabeth Ene, Jordan Grady, Paula Smith finished second by only seven-hundreds of a second with a school record time of 45.11.
Grady took first place in the 400 meters with a first place time of 53.91, just off the school record of 53.86. Kodii Church was sixth in the event with a 57.38 clocking.
Ruth Amaku won the 400 meter hurdles with a school record performance of 58.52.
Smith, who was eighth in the qualifying Saturday, garnered more points for the Kats with a fourth place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.65. Smith followed up with a runner-up performance in the 200 meters with a time of 24.05
Camry Grigsby, Ruth Amaku, Briana McCall, Jordan Grady combined to finish as runners-up in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:41.93.
Briana McCall and Camry Grigsby placed third and fourth with respective times of 2:10.62 and 2:11.90.
Kristine Hanks scored in the discus with a seventh place mark of 146 feet, 2.25 inches.
Ashley Jenkins won an event individual championship for the Sam Houston women in the in the hammer (204' 10.50”) earlier in the meet.
