Five Bearkats On 2015 All-Southland Squad

Five Sam Houston baseball players have been honored with selection to the 2015 All-Southland Conference squad.
Bearkat second baseman Jake MacWilliam and first baseman Spence Rahm have been voted to the All-Southland Conference second and third teams, respectively. Sam Houston outfielders Hayden Simerly and Bryce Johnson and catcher Collin Yelich are honorable mention All-Southland selections.
MacWilliam, a senior from Phoenix, Arizona, is the Bearkats' leading hitter this year with a .384 average. He has totaled 51 hits this season with seven doubles, two home runs and 19 RBIs. He has 11 multiple hit games to his credit.
Rahm, a starter in every game for the Kats this season, owns a .298 average for the season and hit .310 in Southland Conference action this year. The junior from Tomball leads the Orange and White with 18 multiple hit performances this year.
Simerly, a senior from Round Rock / Stony Point, came on strong in league action this year, hitting .345 in Southland games. He has produced 10 doubles, two triples, a home run and 30 RBIs for the Bearkats.
Johnson ranks as Sam Houston's second-leading hitter both for the season and in conference play this spring. The freshman from Cypress / Cy Ranch owns a .356 average in league action and a .307 mark for the year. He has posted 14 double figure hitting performances.
Yelich, a transfer from Orange Coast College, hit .287 this year and posted a .977 fielding average, starting 52 times behind the plate.
Sam Houston begins play in the 2015 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament Wednesday at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. The Bearkats play McNeese State at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
An all-tournament pass, which allows entry into all 15 possible games of the tournament, is $55. A single-day pass, which will include four games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a possibility of three games on Saturday, is $17 each day.
Skeeters season-ticket holders will be eligible for an $11 ticket offer. Additionally, children 5 and under will be admitted free of charge, while students at Southland Conference Institutions will also gain free admission with a valid student ID.
Tickets are available for purchase at the Constellation Field box office, by phone at 281-240-4487 and online at sugarlandskeeters.com. Online orders are subject to a $2 service charge per ticket.
