
Zach Cabra Named PING All-Region

Zach Cabra of Sam Houston has been named to the 2015 PING NCAA Division I All-Central Region men's golf honor squad by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Cabra won two regular season individual medalist titles and finished among the top 10 players in eight events this season to help lead the Bearkats to their second consecutive Southland Conference championship and appearance in the NCAA Regionals.
The senior from McKinney finished his two years as a Bearkat as Sam Houston's all-time leader in stroke average with a 71.75 mark. He is one of only four Kat men's golfers to win five or more individual medalist championships during his career. Cabra's 71.43 stroke average during the 2014-15 season also is a school record.
A finance major with a 3.78 overall grade point average Cabra also was honored as Southland Conference men's golf “Student-Athlete of the Year.” Cabra is the 19th Bearkat to earn “Student-Athlete of the Year” honors in their sport since the award was initiated in 2007. Those 19 individuals have received the honor a total of 22 times.
The Bearkat men won three tournament championships this year, ranked among the NCAA's top 50 teams all season and finished 12th at the Washington NCAA Regional.
Cabra earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors for the second year in a row. The senior won individual medalist championships at both the Sam Houston Harold Funston Invitational and the Rice Owl Intercollegiate tournaments.
A total of 155 players across six regions (Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West) earned PING all-region honors of 2015. The 2015 All-Central region honorees are:
