Tennis Opens Fall Tournament Schedule

With four new faces in the line-up plus five letter-winners from last year's squad, the Sam Houston women's tennis team sees its first action of the 2015-16 season this weekend.
The Bearkats will take part in the annual Tyler Junior College women's tournament. Other teams competing include Stephen F. Austin, LSU-Alexandria, Dallas Baptist, Midwestern State, Texas-Tyler and host Tyler Junior College.
Players returning from last year's squad include sophomores Fabienne Gettwart, Mila Milanovic and Caitlyn Mitchell, junior Bailey VanDyke and senior Maddie Mortimore.
Joining the squad are Ema Barkovic from Crotia, Ema Barkovic from Crotia, Khee Yen Wee from Singapore and Carrie Casey from Franklin. Casey comes to Sam Houston from Midwestern State.
“We have a nice mix of experience and new players this fall and we're looking forward to getting some competition,” Sam Houston head coach Jim Giachino said. “The new players are going to help us get better.”
The Tyler tournament will be flighted tournament with championships awarded for numbers one through six and four flights in doubles.
Action begins at 9 a.m. Friday with two rounds of singles followed by doubles at 4 p.m. Sam Houston's doubles teams will pair Gettwart and Mitchell along with Barkovic and Milanovic at number two and Mortimore and Vandyke at number three.
