Tennis Opens With Winning Weekend

The Sam Houston women's tennis team started their 2015 fall tournament schedule on a winning note, chalking up 34 victories in 48 singles and doubles matches over the weekend.
The Bearkats participated in the Tyler Tennis Classic hosted by Tyler Junior College. Fabienne Gettwart played in the number one singles flight. Carrie Casey played in the number two singles competition. Maddie Mortimore and Ema Barkovic represented Sam Houston in the number three singles competition.
Caitlyn Mitchell, Bailey VanDyke and Mila Milanovic played at number four, five and six singles respectively. Mortimore and Milanovic both won all four of her matches while Gettwart, Barkovic and VanDyke each won three of their four contests.
“For the first tournament of the fall and the amount of matches the girls played, our team gave everything they had,” head coach Jim Giachino said. “We have a lot of talent on the team but we still need to improve in a few areas.
Next up for the Bearkats is the Rice Invitational in Houston Friday through Sunday September 25-27.
