
Kats stand sixth going into Sunday bracket play

Facing four top 10 ranked teams in traditional team action Saturday, the No. 4 ranked Sam Houston women's bowling team went 0-4 on the second day of action at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington.
The Bearkats opened the day with a 1004 – 929 loss to No. 2 Nebraska. Carrie Hopkinson led the Sam women in the opener with a 214 pinfall.
No. 3 Vanderbilt handed the Kats a 1048 – 976 loss. Stephenie Zavala posted a team high score of 254 in the contest.
No. 8 Stephen F. Austin edged Sam Houston 1136 – 1102 despite four Bearkats knocking down more than 200 pins. Anna Groce led the team with a 253 total.
No. 1 Arkansas State defeated the Kats 1163 – 1062 in the day's final match. Heather Penatzer was Sam Houston's top bowler with a 231 total.
For the day, Hopkinson and Penatzer produced the top pin fall totals with scores of 1,047 and 1,045 for 209.40 and 209.00, respectively. Those totals ranked 11th and 12th in the day's final overall individual standings. Jordan Richard of Arkansas State led all bowlers in the event with a 232.20 average.
Sam Houston will be the number six seed in Sunday's best-of-seven bracket play with a team total of 10,085 (201.7 per game) during the past two days of competition. SFA enters Sunday play seeded number 1 and Arkansas State is the two seed.
The Sam Houston women's bowling team opened play at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington Friday by winning all five of its team baker dual matches.
The Kats defeated No. 17 Monmouth 1040 – 962, No. 11 North Carolina A&T 1022 – 961, No. 21 Prairie View A&M 1010 – 995, Texas Southern 976 – 851 and No. 10 Maryland-Eastern Shore 961 – 950.
Friday and Saturday's results combined now put the Bearkats' 2015-16 dual match record at 63-29.
