A six-game victory over No. 10 Maryland-Eastern Shore highlighted the final day for the Sam Houston women's bowling team at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington.
The No. 4 ranked Bearkats finished the tournament in seventh place after compiling a 6-6 dual match record and a 201.9 tournament pin fall average. The Sam Houston women started the day with a traditional team match 923 – 903 loss to Tulane.
The Kats defeated UMES 202 – 168, 231 – 235, 244 – 147, 232 – 206, 187 – 193, 251 – 1178 after lossing in four games 267 – 180, 222 – 221, 205 -189, 217 – 197 to North Carolina A&T to complete action in the tournament.
“We missed too many makeable spares,” Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. “We averaged decently but made too many early mistakes too many times. We caught some teams at the wrong time as well.”
No. 2 Nebraska defeated No. 1 Arkansas in seven games to win the tournament championship Sunday.
Saturday the Bearkats dropped four traditional team matches to top 10 ranked teams, falling to No. 2 Nebrasa 1004 – 929, No. 3 Vanderbilt 1048 – 976, No. 8 Stephen F. Austin 1136 – 1102 and No. 1 Arkansas State 1163 – 1062.
Friday The Kats opened the tournament in team baker action with wins over No. 17 Monmouth 1040 – 962, No. 11 North Carolina A&T 1022 – 961, No. 21 Prairie View A&M 1010 – 995, Texas Southern 976 – 851 and No. 10 Maryland-Eastern Shore 961 – 950.
The results in Arlington now put the Bearkats' 2015-16 dual match record at 64-31.
