Heather Penatzer Medals In Las Vegas Event

Heather Penatzer, sophomore women's bowler for Sam Houston from Tucson, Arizona, reached the U.S. Amateur women's stepladder finals at the USBC Team USA Trials/U.S. National Amateur Bowling Championships in Las Vegas Sunday, January 3, through Thursday, January 7.
A total of 108 top women's bowlers from across the nation are entered in the competition.
Penatzer defeated No. 2 seed Jordan Richard from Michigan 235 to 199 in the semifinals and lost to No. 1 seed Stephanie Schwartz of Wisconsin 238 to 133 in the finals. Penatzer earned 118 rankings points during the five rounds of competition in the event to finish 10th in the 2016 Team USA Trails / US Amateur standings.
Other members of the 2016 Bearkat squad who competed in Las Vegas were Anna Groce, Janine Kuwahara, Stephanie Zavala, Madysen Keller and Randi Speiler. Taryn Graya, who has signed with the Kats for the coming 2016-17 season also will participate.
Sam Houston currently ranks No. 4 in the country in the National Ten Pin Coaches Association poll. The Bearkats own a 48-21 dual match record through the fall season.
The Sam women return to intercollegiate action on Friday, January 15, when the Kats travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to compete in the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invitational.
The Bearkats will compete in six regular season tournaments during the spring semester. The Southland Bowling Championships will be held in New Orleans, La., March 25 through March 26 . The 2016 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship will be held April 14 through 16 in Brunswick, New Jersey.
