
Kats take title in season opener

The Sam Houston bowling team got the new season off on the right foot, taking the title at the Wildcat Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
Playing as the No. 2 seed, the Bearkats opened up Sunday's bracket play with a loss to the to seed, Arkansas State, falling in six games. The Kats bounced back, knocking off Stephen F. Austin, to set up a rematch with Arkansas State.
The second time around, the Kats made short work of third-ranked team in the country, winning in five in the best of seven series.
“Yesterday and today was a grind,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “The leadership, the determination, and will was tested this weekend and I'm happy we prevailed. This was a great learning weekend we can run with moving forward and a collective effort in this weekend's victory.”
In the final against Arkansas State, the Kats and Red Wolves split the first two, games before Sam Houston took the last three to claim the title.
