Yamalapalli Signs With Bearkat Tennis

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston State women's tennis head coach Rob Hubbard has announced the signing of India's Sahaja Yamalapalli to a National Letter of Intent, adding her to the roster beginning in fall of 2017.
“I am absolutely thrilled to have Sahaja joining our Bearkat family,” Hubbard said. “She is not only an accomplished player on the rise, but a very strong student as well. Her character, commitment and passion for the game make her an outstanding addition to our tennis program.”
In just a short period of time Yamalapalli has moved into the top 35 of the U18 rankings in India and also ranks in the top 100 in the women's open division. She recently broke into the world junior rankings and has quickly moved to a 10 UTR (Universal Tennis Rating).
“I'm very proud to become a member of Bearkat Nation and hope to make them proud of me by giving my best performance,” Yamalapalli said. “I was looking for a university with a strong academic standing combined with a strong athletic structure and Sam Houston met both of those requirements. That, along with Coach Hubbard's qualifications and commitment helped me decide that Sam Houston was the right choice.”
