
Tennis Travels To Arlington For Two Matches

Riding a two-match winning streak, the Sam Houston women's tennis team travels to Arlington for its final two non-conference contests before opening up Southland Conference action.
The Bearkats take on Missouri State Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center then battle the Mavericks on Sunday. The UTA women's tennis team has not lost a home match since Jan. 24, 2015. The Mavs own a 14-match home winning streak.
Missouri State has been a road warrior thus far this season, playing eight consecutive matches away from home. MSU stands 1-7 for the year against a demanding schedule that as pitted them against Wichita State, Kansas State, Iowa, Creighton, Central Arkansas and McNeese State.
UTA brings a 2-0 record into the weekend after defeating Montana State 7-0 and Nevada 4-0 in the Mavericks' opening dual matches of the year.
Sam Houston is off to a 4-2 start. The Bearkats defeated South Dakota State 6-1 in a home match at the McAdams Tennis Center last Saturday. The Kats also own wins over LSU-Alexandria, Prairie View A&M and Montana State.
Senior Maddie Mortimore owns a 5-1 singles record playing at number five. Sophomores Fabienne Gettwart, Carrie Casey and Mila Milanovic and freshman Ema Barkovic all stand 4-2 in dual match singles action this year. Sophomore Caitlyn Mitchell is 3-3.
Sam Houston opens Southland Conference action at the McAdams Center on Saturday and Sunday, February 27 and 28, when the Bearkats play host to Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans, respectively.
