
Bearkats take fourth at Islander Classic

The Sam Houston State women's golf team added a second straight top five finish to its spring resume, capturing fourth at the two-day Islander Classic from Corpus Christi Country Club on Tuesday.
The Bearkats were led by Nicole Budnik who shot a 14-over (74-75-81), 230 to finish in a tie for 17th. Teammate Jenna Phillips finished just one stroke back at 15-over, 231 in 19th while Heather Shake (71-92-82) secured a tie for 20th at 16-over, 232.
Meanwhile, Sarah Black earned a tie for 25th at 18-over, 234, following up an opening-round 76 with a pair of 79's on Tuesday. Teammate Celeste Lo (78-75-85), who boasted an impressive second round, finished out play in a tie for 36th at 22-over, 238.
UTSA claimed the team championship with an overall score of 884, an impressive 21 stroke victory over second-place Lamar (905). Houston Baptist rounded out the top three at 906. The Roadrunners' Julie Houston claimed the individual title at 1-under, 215, besting Lamar's Olivia Le Roux by three strokes.
The Bearkats return to play in two weeks at the UTRGV Women's Collegiate from McAllen Country Club. The three-day event begins March 7 and marks the first time Sam Houston has participated in the event.
