Sam Houston State sophomore Courtney Lord earned Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, following a big weekend at Stephen F. Austin, the league announced Wednesday.

The Buda, Texas (Hays Consolidated H.S.), native secured personal record in the 200 meters (25.78), 800 meters (2:30.78), 100-meter hurdles (14.88) and javelin throw (114-0).
Lord finished first in the long jump (18-11.75), second in the javelin, second in the high jump, third in the 200 meters and third in the 800 meters.
Teammate Frances Porter also notched a personal best in a 4,701-point third-place finish. The senior added personal records in the javelin (114 feet), long jump (18 feet, 11 ¾ inches), high jump (5 feet, 7 inches) and 200 meters (25.78) as part of a successful weekend for the program.
Since the start of the outdoor season, Lord has notched three top finishes including the high jump at McNeese and long jump at UTSA. She also claimed third in the pentathlon at the Southland Indoor Championships behind 3,540 points and a top finish in the high jump.
The Bearkats will split time this weekend at the famed Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., as well as the J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston. Following the split action, the Bearkats will have just one more weekend of competition before the Southland Outdoor Championships, May 8-10 in Corpus Christi.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
