
Bearkats take 16th, turn attention to SLC

Against a talented field at the Web.com Intercollegiate, hosted by Jacksonville University, the Sam Houston women's golf program finished 16th at 71-over, 935, led by Nicole Budnik, who took 60th at 16-over, 232.
Middle Tennessee claimed the team title at 9-over, 873, while Campbell's Nadine White took the individual championship at 4-under, 212. Campbell finished second (10-over, 874) followed by North Florida (17-over, 881) and Coastal Carolina and Toledo who finished tied for fourth (18-over, 882).
Sam Houston, which posted a first-round 300 to enter the final day in a tie for 11th, fell back to 16th after a second-round 315 and third-round 320. Sarah Black (74-79-80) and Heather Shake (77-77-79) finished tied for 64th at 17-over, 233, while Jenna Phillips (77-83-79) took 77th at 23-over, 239, and Celeste Lo (75-84-85) secured 82nd at 28-over, 244.
The tournament was the final in the regular season for the Bearkats who head to the Southland Conference Championship at McKinney's Stonebridge Ranch Country Club from April 11-13. The program took fifth a season ago at the event and is seeking its first league title since 2007 and third overall.
Sam Houston concluded its regular-season with two team championships, coming Sept. 28-29 at Tulsa's Bob Hurley ORU Shootout and Feb. 14-15 at Texas State's All There August Challenge. Prior to its trip to the east coast, the Kats took fifth at the HBU Husky Invitational.
