After day one of competition, the Sam Houston women's bowling team currently sits in third place at the Sugar Bowl Invitational hosted by Tulane.
The Kats posted a 3-2 record on the day, including wins against Southern, Duquesne and Lincoln Memorial University.
Three times the Kats knocked down more than 1,000 pins and currently have the third-best scoring average at 206.1.
They opened the day with a loss to Valpo, falling by 140 pins. The Kats answered right back knocking off Southern 1,014-779. Following a narrow 35-pin loss to SFA, the Kats bounds back beating Duquesne and Lincoln Memorial to close out the day strong.
"Our record doesn't reflect how well we finished today but does reflect our slow start mentally," said head coach Brad Hagen. "We finished with 4 straight sets over a 1000 which any day of the week wins most of the time but it took awhile to settle the nerves and mistakes are heightened when the scoring pace is higher. Too many mental mistakes early on but happy with how we finished especially the last three sets going 1054, 1071, and 1058."
