Fresh off a title in the opening tournament of the season, the Sam Houston bowlers are back at this weekend. They will be a prat of a loaded field at the Brunswick Bearcat Open hosted by McKendree University.
McKendree, last season's national champions, have as good of a tournament field as the Kats will see all season. A total of 17 teams that are currently in the top 25 will participate, including 9 of the top 1o teams.
“This weekend's schedule is very demanding against a quality field but I believe if we can showcase that early season maturity we had last weekend we should come away with another successful outing,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “October's always a dicey, competitive transitioning period for all teams as you're looking to set a tone for your team and develops new talent to fill your roster needs.”
The fifth-ranked Bearkats won their opening tournament of the season last week at Tulane. Hagen is hoping the team, which consists of five newcomers, can build off that momentum.
“I was very happy with the maturity the team showed and how we reacted to some adverse moments at Tulane, he said. “Adversity at the end of the day defines character and as we move on in to our schedule the competitive maturity should continue to grow and develop and so will our depth. The best teams in the country in any sport have the deepest benches and that's always a goal of mine.”
