The Sam Houston bowling team went 4-1 on Saturday at the SFA Stormin Ladyjack Classic. After winning just twice on Friday, the Kats bounced back knocking off three top-20 opponents.
Despite the stronger day, they remain in sixth overall heading into Sunday's bracket play.
“Another up and down day with a slow start that we were able to capitalize on,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We have to do a better job given our situation and establish a rhythm a lot quicker. Slow starts are death with a competitive field and a higher scoring pace.”
Stephanie Zavala led the way for the Kats individually, with a 216 average, placing her 7th overall. Her high game of the day was a 256, followed by a 248. The high game of the day for the Bearkats came from Heather Penatzer who rolled a 279.
“The sooner we can get in to a rhythm the sooner we can establish the momentum,” Hagen said. “I'm happy we finished with the momentum we did but now we need to find a way to carry that over to match play.”
The Bearkats will play Arkansas State in the opening match Sunday in bracket play. The best they can finish is third.
